Lancelot Runge
How would you describe what you do? Your practice, your craft, your cash machine?
I alter magazine pages with acrylic paint marker and ink. I also make relief prints, restore antique furniture and make sculptural paintings on canvas.
Can you tell us where you are from?
Brooklyn
What does your morning routine look like?
I'm often brushing my teeth while I make my bed and my cats encircle my feet while they cry for food and try to nip my toes.
Where do you look for inspiration? A place, a person, a book, an action?
I draw inspiration from sexual encounters in my own life as well as punk music, heavy metal, comic books, and tattooing.
What has been the biggest challenge on your journey?
Making sure I dedicate as much time to my art as possible and accepting that this is what I'm meant to do.
How do you define success? What are the goalposts you look out for?
I feel like my most recent body of work connected me with a community of NYC artists. They boost me up and I support them whenever I can. That's success.
What's the best advice you've gotten from someone?
Make work.
Who is someone that has helped you get to where you are now? How were they impactful?
My friend Zach has been a huge inspiration for me. They are always eager to give feedback and show enthusiasm for what I'm working on.
What are you currently listening to? What's your go-to sexy song?
IDLES - "Love Song"
What's the last thing you bought with cash?
A cold brew.
